The Ikea Tube

Have you all heard the latest news about Ikea? The Swedish company has released a Youtube commercial for a customizable home theater system that is set to launch in a few countries by the end of this year. Ikea is already a popular destination for affordable and attractive furniture, now it looks like they are entering into the electronic space with the integration of the two.

I actually think their Uppleva home theater system is a great concept. Not only does the base unit come with a “smart” 1080p LED TV, virtual surround system (including a wireless subwoofer that can be hidden anywhere in the room), but also a Blu-ray player. The TV is built in to the cabinetry and can be purchased in a number of sizes and styles. Cords are completely hidden and the TV is much less of an eye sore. The unit also has a single remote and is advertised as a one stop spot for surfing the web, watching movies, looking at pictures, etc without the need for any extra devices.

Check out the commercial below:

Pretty cool, huh?  It likely won’t be available in the US until 2013, so it’ll be a while until we can check it out while enjoying some of their famous meatballs.

On the topic of TVs that don’t stand out like a sore thumb in a wonderfully decorated room, here’s a roundup of some of my favorites found via Pinterest.

Speaking of TV, how glad is everyone that Mad Men is finally back on?! I just caught up on Sunday’s episode. SO good.
